NEW: EARLY VERSION TOCCATA IN D AND SIGNED BOLERO

Manuscripts of Bach's Toccata in D (BWV 913) and Ravel's Bolero are highlights of new manuscripts that have been added to the Music Collection.

MS 5573 Ravel Bolero 800x642

According to preliminary information from Dr. Jörg Hansen at Bachhaus Eisenach and Prof. Peter Wollny at Bach-Archiv Leipzig, the Bach musical manuscript is an entirely new and unique source for Bach's toccata BWV 913 closer to the earlier versions than later versions of the piece. The Bolero, signed by Ravel, indicates "Tempo di Bolero moderato assai" with metronome mark of 66 per quarter note. In Ravel's copy of the first edition the printed metronome mark 76 is crossed out and changed to 66, as in present MS, while later editions suggest a tempo of 72.
