Commentary The Girl of the Golden West was first performed in the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, on 10 December 1910. This is a very early version of the orchestral introduction to the duet "Signor Johnson, siete rimasto indietro" for Minnie and Dick Johnson. Most of the chords present here were later recomposed. The caption refers to the gold kept concealed in a barrel under the table in the Polka Saloon, which Mimmie shows Johnson during their duet.
