Description MS in Norwegian on paper, Kristiania (Oslo), November 1885, 2 pp., 11x18 cm, single column (9x17 cm); text 1:1 ruled stave with music, 5 lines in cursive script, autograph, signed; text 2 on reverse: 6 lines in cursive script, autograph signed.
Context Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt was published in 1867. Grieg set music to the play in 1875, revised it in 1886. It was published in 1908 as opus 23. Grieg also reworked the music as two suites, op. 46 and 55 in 1888 and 1881. The present excerpt represents Grieg's original version of Anitra's Dance. Grieg added the following to the unknown recipient: "In the hope that you will teach your minors to dance after this tune".
